The upper falls and dam can be photographed any time of day.  The waterwheel faces west and is best photographed in the mid to late afternoon. The azaleas are usually in bloom early to mid-April.

The leaves change in late October and early November, the best color is along the creek bed by the lower falls.   Watch the weather, the mill is downstream from several large farms. If we have had heavy rains, the creek gets muddy, quickly, and can stay muddy and foamy for days afterward.  Please keep in mind the grounds  and the building are only open to the public on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from April – November.

Snow is rare in southern Tennessee.  It makes lovely pictures, but getting to the mill can be very difficult.

US 64 is usually salted and cleared but Old Salem- Lexie road is shaded and steep in places and is not easy to access in snow or ice.
